ANDREW C. MUNRO

Counsel

Andrew’s practice encompasses estate and trust law, estate planning, civil, commercial, and estate litigation, and he serves as general counsel for various corporations. Fluent in both official languages, he represents many Quebec corporations in Ontario.

In his estate practice, Andrew advises on and drafts Powers of Attorney for Property and Personal Care, Primary and Secondary Wills, succession planning, trusts, and estate administration. He frequently speaks on estate and trust issues and advises on succession planning for owners of privately held Ontario corporations.

Andrew litigates various civil matters, including personal injury, dog bites, slip and fall cases, dental malpractice, and commercial disputes such as breach of contract and business-related claims. As general counsel, he advises on employment, contracts, regulatory issues, and corporate matters, and collaborates with foreign counsel to establish new locations for Ontario corporations abroad.

CHRISTOPHER J. CLAPPERTON

Counsel

Christopher’s practice spans estate and trust, corporate, and tax law, specializing in planning, negotiating, drafting, and implementing trusts for First Nations land claims settlements. His estate and trust services include estate and personal planning, will preparation, powers of attorney, charitable giving mechanisms, and estate administration, litigation, and mediation. In corporate law, Christopher focuses on succession planning for private corporations and provides corporate counsel to owner-managed businesses. His tax practice involves advising on domestic and international tax issues, compliance matters with the Canada Revenue Agency, and preparing technical interpretation requests and advance income tax ruling applications.

Christopher is highly successful in mediating legal disputes, settling over 80% of his cases at the mediation stage, reducing costs and expediting resolutions for clients. He leverages his mediation experience and psychological insights to resolve emotionally charged estate disputes on a financial basis. Recently, Christopher has set up trusts for aboriginal land claims settlements, mediated numerous estate disputes, engaged in significant post-mortem estate planning, and conducted educational seminars and lectures on estate, trust, corporate, and tax planning. He also frequently writes for industry and client publications on related topics.

WILLS & ESTATES

We offer a vast range of services in estate and business succession planning, estate administration, and litigation. Our estates department is keenly aware of the often difficult decisions family members have to make in succession planning and estate administration. Trusts are a terrific tool to ensure that succession objectives are achieved such as family wealth protection and preservation. We work closely with our clients to provide detailed plans that fit their individual needs. We work with executors to assist them in the probate application process, transfer of assets, satisfaction of estate debts and liabilities, and estate tax filings to the conclusion of the estate.

CORPORATE

Our Corporate and Commercial Group provides practical advice to a wide range of businesses. We assist clients in setting up a corporate structure that will enable them to implement their business objectives securely and with minimum liability. We draft agreements to ensure that our clients’ relationships with key parties, such as suppliers, distributors, customers and licensees are clear and enforceable. We also ensure that our clients’ important business assets, such as intellectual property, are protected through appropriate agreements with employees, contractors and licensees

LITIGATION

We represent plaintiffs and defendants in all aspects of civil and commercial litigation with an emphasis on construction lien, contract disputes, employment law, defamation, estate disputes, civil fraud, human rights, occupier’s liability, personal injury, product liability, and real estate. Working closely with our clients and various professional experts, our team will represent you in negotiation, alternate dispute resolution, mediation or trial. We strive to deliver litigation services in a cost effective, timely, and results-oriented manner, representing corporate and individual clients at all levels of court including Federal Court, Ontario Court of Appeal, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, as well as administrative tribunals including the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and the Ontario Human Rights Commission.

Our real estate team provides an efficient client oriented full service that covers all aspects of real estate conveyance, and the various issues that can arise in any residential or commercial deal.
